Genre: Hardcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0PFHcCaLkbx3hGoKG6hUEP?si=GmKNOM8TSv-iWq2TKv4ZmQ
"After a pandemic-induced hiatus, former Cro-Mags vocalist John Joseph has once again revived his Bloodclot project, a band that dates back to his days as a roadie for D.C. hardcore pioneers Bad Brains in the early ’80s. The latest incarnation of Joseph’s metalllic hardcore quartet features guitarist Tom Capone (ex-Quicksand), bassist Craig Setari (Sick Of It All) and drummer Darren Morgenthaler (ex-Madball). Musically it’s a Slayer-inspired hardcore rampage akin to that band’s late ’80s output, though Capone’s at-times dissonant guitar adds a post-metal tension to the track. It was produced by Laz Pina (Ill Niño) and mixed by Chris Collier." - Adem Tepedelen @ Decibel

Genre: Rock Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/11FY888Qctoy6YueCpFkXT?si=LOiWDk2aQJO94PpXWplKEQ
Today, it’s hard to remember that Circa Survive vocalist Anthony Green, guitarists Colin Frangicetto and Brendan Ekstrom, bassist Nick Beard and drummer Steve Clifford – began their journey together so eagerly. After several years, two successful album and limitless amounts of love and respect earned and shared between one another, Circa Survive has become one of the most impactful, ethereal bands on the planet. Perhaps even more significantly, they’ve also become a family – which explains why the suburban, Pennsylvania house that serves as the band’s writing and rehearsal space is also their shared home. “I’m pretty sure that each member knows everything there is to know about everyone in this band, being together as much as we are,” laughs Beard. It’s precisely that level of intimacy that’s fuelled Circa Survive’s every action – including tours with bands like My Chemical Romance, Coheed and Cambria and Cute Is What We Aim For – and infused their critical accomplishments – they graced the cover of Alternative Press’ coveted 100 Bands You Need To Know issue (April 2007) – with a sense of pride. So by the time Circa Survive was ready to begin crafting the follow-up to 2005’s breakthrough Juturna, the chemistry and togetherness combined with their shared experiences was ready to extend to their music as well.

Genre: Black Metal / Post Metal Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3SzTaaNgwUukUhQZVKMKFK?si=w_T3SewDTiWFMB4bXMmYpQ
WOODS OF DESOLATION was formed by multi-instrumentalist D. in 2005 as a means for personal expression through music. Firmly built upon this ethos, a series of demo recordings garnered a solid following within underground black metal circles worldwide. Continually evolving and working with different guest musicians, D. began to showcase his talent for crafting melancholic, yet at times uplifting, melodies on the debut album Toward The Depths (2008), further refining it on the Sorh EP (2009) and the influential sophomore full-length Torn Beyond Reason (2011). In 2014, Woods of Desolation released the critically acclaimed third full-length As The Stars. This album saw D. further introduce a wider array of musical influences, such as post rock and shoegaze, into his unique take on black metal, becoming one of the main protagonists in what would become the burgeoning genre of post black metal. Additionally, lyrical themes were expanded beyond what had come before – nature, life, sorrow – now personally exploring the metaphysical aspects of spirituality and the afterlife. In the years that followed, D. created two new black metal projects REMETE & UNFELLED, simultaneously writing material for the next Woods of Desolation full-length. In 2021, the long-awaited follow up to As The Stars was recorded, and is slated for release via Season of Mist.

Genre: Post-Hardcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0iU3WDujScAofxcK2EMypN?si=CTAsllHrRQeaHWKp3d3UOg
Thousand Below’s vulnerable, ambient, yet ultimately hopeful self-examination of loss, life and healing is an enduring theme resonating in the band’s signature sound. The range within their genre is an homage to the band’s intimate experience through the stages of grief. The American quartet-- James DeBerg [vocals], Josh Thomas [guitar], Josh Billimoria [Bass], and Max Santoro [drums]-- descend into the visceral anger and raw anguish echoing throughout their lyrically-jarring debut album The Love You Let Too Close, followed by the somber instrumentation of an ultimately quieter emotional discourse in their sophomore album Gone In Your Wake. Their newest album, Hell Finds You Everywhere, persists as a reflective introspection to the narrative of their second album, and demonstrates a maturity of sound.

Genre: Hardcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6dOCTX1ATvti0d4uaxwlO3?si=QjiE58-iQO6zfc2sqpkTxg
Oakland, California’s reigning kings of heavy hardcore first stormed onto the scene in 2007 with their debut album: The Will To Survive. Lionheart came out swinging with a full blown assault of blistering metallic hardcore. They quickly followed it up with 2010’s ‚Built On Struggle‘, 2012’s ‚ Undisputed‘ and years of nonstop touring. Following a short break after the release of Undisputed, the band came back stronger than ever with 2014’s ‚Welcome To The Westcoast‘. The album debuted at #1 on both iTunes metal and GooglePlay metal charts. Lionheart stormed onto the scene again in January 2016 with ‚Love Don’t Live Here‘. The album title, a nod to a classic R&B/ Motown song by the same name, shows the bands unwillingness to conform to the typical "hardcore mold“, as well as the bitter and unforgiving lyrical content the band is known for. November 2017 saw Lionheart unleash “Welcome To The West Coast II”. A sequel to “Welcome To The West Coast” (2014), the album brought forth a new era in California Hardcore, and saw them again debut at #1 across the iTunes Metal charts and Google Play metal charts.

"Ready For Death is a new thrash band featuring Artie White (Indecision, Milhouse, Concrete Cross), Dallas Thomas (Pelican, Asschapel, Swan King), Dan Binaei (Racetraitor, Haggathorn), Shawn “The Beast” Brewer (Haggathorn), and Luca Cimarusti (Luggage, Annihilus). The band came together after a chance encounter between Artie and Dallas, who met while taking their kids to taekwondo class, unaware of each other's musical histories until one day when their kids were having a playdate and Dallas dug through Artie's record collection. "Swans... Bolt Thrower... Napalm Death... Neurosis...wait...this guy isn't a normal dad!" The band name also came from Dallas' five-year old daughter, who one day busted the door open to his basement studio with a toy sword and yelled "READY FOR DEATH!" before attacking her dad." - Andrew Sacher @ Brookyln Vegan

Through an unwavering dedication to progression, Wage War sharpen their patented hybrid of heavy pit-starting technicality and hummable hypnotic melodies with each subsequent evolution. Look no further than the aptly titled third full-length from the Florida quintet, Pressure [Fearless Records]. The band—Briton Bond [lead vocals], Cody Quistad [rhythm guitar, clean vocals], Seth Blake [lead guitar], Chris Gaylord [bass], and Stephen Kluesener [drums]—drove themselves to fully realize their ambition by pushing harder. Genre: Punk / Noise Rock Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/32ho80wRRKWv0oeaW2eyLX?si=-rajfJ2rQCq-hBDoDF4xvQ
Norwich based Other Half met through a mutual love of the UK DIY punk scene, driving a really long way to shout at people and (broadly) vegan slop. The band released their debut album, Big Twenty, via Venn Records (Gallows, Bob Vylan, Marmozets & more) in 2020. A sprawling, violent slice-of-life, the release garnered praise from various outlets, with The Line Of Best Fit calling Big Twenty’s vivid world ‘volatile and dark, but also enthralling to hear’. They are set to release their second album, Soft Action, via Big Scary Monsters (American Football, Cursive, The Get Up Kids, Meat Wave), in December 2022. The album finds Other Half distilling the sneering punk and sardonic storytelling that characterised their first album, whilst amplifying the most melodic and dissonant parts of their sound. The discordant squall of Sonic Youth, the ragged hooks of Pixies and the searing intensity of bands like Converge, all underpinned with the wiry vocal interplay of singers Cal and Soapy. Play it like you mean it.

Genre: Metallic / Harcdcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0iLA9qNrXngiyQqZjcnwxt?si=vBlBBRlJSYS9_-qtkYkCFQ
Columbia, South Carolina act Your Spirit Dies is determined to set the record straight on metalcore. Formed in 2019 and making their recorded debut on 2020’s The Process of Grief, they call back to the halcyon days before metalcore was just hardcore’s more popular but markedly less cool younger sibling. Instead of watered down, radio-ready choruses and questionable fashion choices, Your Spirit Dies delivers deft, darkly melodic riffing and surgically precise, crushing breakdowns. Taking cues from Gothenburg melodeath inspired acts like Undying and Arkangel, the band understands the power inherent in the form when it’s done right. There are enough harmonized leads and triplet breakdowns here for even the most rigid metalcore purist to take note. But with modern sensibilities and the power of hindsight in their toolkit, this is a fresh take that is just as likely to attract new fans to the genre as it is to impress old ones. This isn’t a rehash, but a reimagining. A peek into an alternate universe where metalcore went left at the fork instead of right, eschewing commercial appeal in favor of authenticity. Your Spirit Dies is not just what metalcore could’ve been—It’s what it should be.

It’s been a long time coming, trying to record around lockdowns and shut downs and everything else was tough but we’re so happy with what we’ve made and are very excited to show you! This album is more defiant than depressed, more upbeat than down trodden and is inspired by a search for meaning and what’s next. We’ve all lived through a once in a lifetime event, some of us have lived through multiple once in a lifetime events, and it can be hard to come to terms with what we’ve been through and what comes next. South of Heaven, West of Hell
Set in singer and multi-instrumentalist Stu Folsom’s apocalyptic, vision of the American West, SpiritWorld is metal at its most rustic and blood drenched. Think Slayer and Pantera getting into a bar fight while gunslingers battle demonic entities amidst tomahawk like riffs. SpiritWorld emerged in 2017 as a musical outlet for Folsom’s love of punk, outlaw country and metal, taking a decidedly outlaw roots punk bent. Yet, it was with the full-metal direction of the initially self-released Pagan Rhythms, (re-released in 2021 through SpiritWorld's new label home, Century Media) that won the band international acclaim. Daniel Carter, BBC 1 DJ and curator of The Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter, as well as the likes of Exodus/Slayer guitarist Gary Holt and former Sepultura/current Soulfly leader Max Cavalera sang the album’s praises on their social media, discovering the band on word-of-mouth alone. Folsom and his gang debuted their live show at Decibel magazine’s Los Angeles Metal and Beer Festival in December 2021, and immediately followed it up with a run in the States with Obituary, Municipal Waste, Gatecreeper and Enforced. In 2022 SpiritWorld’s dusty trail of riffs and murder ballads continued to Seattle’s Northwest Terror Fest, the UK’s Bloodstock Open Air, Czech’s Brutal Assault and Psycho Las Vegas ripping apart stages and saloons at every turn. Unrepentant and unforgiven is putting it mildly.

1. Mourning - Disenlightenment (United kingdom)
Genre: Metallic Hardcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3ETfEcDsM21qIaGVzJdNUp?si=X6Axdl2fTcOZdVproSgE9Q
UK metallic hardcore band Mourning have unleashed Disenlightenment, their new album out today on Streets of Hate. Mourning’s mix of influences shine throughout the eight tracks on the album, drawing from ‘90s upstate New York metallic hardcore, UK death metal and Scandanavian black metal. There’s plenty of heavy moments fixated on the band’s substantial guitar work, but also moment’s on reprieve that lean into more haunting territory. Tracks like “Cancer Incarnate” and “Desert Of The Spirit” are begging for some serious headbanging, while closer “Grievance Ascends” showcases the band’s more technical abilities. Disenlightenment itself comes as a concept album as a commentary of the society we live in. Connor expands:“The overarching theme of ‘Disenlightenment’ is of distrust, exhaustion and contempt of living in the modern western world. The debate of the west being in decline is a centuries old concept but it feels an entirely relevant concept right now when you want to talk about modern politics, culture, environment, social norms etc. Whether that’s the constant economic downturns, waning tolerance of opposing ideas, an unrepresentative political system, lack of cultural significance in the endless streams of content, an increasingly inhospitable environment, ideological fanaticism and zealotry etc. To put it simply, it feels like the sun is setting on the western empire.” Disenlightenment was self-recorded and produced by the band at Audiolounge studios in Glasgow, UK, and was then mixed by Andy Nelson at Bricktop Recording in Chicago, IL and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, OR.

Genre: Metalcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0Z88iXWc4YVhtu1eFtsGk6?si=VVCy39LkTzOS3n4Vo90LFw
Unrestricted by genre conventions and determined to raise the bar with each successive album, WOLVES AT THE GATE deliver music and a message with a firm commitment to passion and authenticity. Tirelessly seeking out the light in seemingly overwhelming darkness, the Midwestern post-hardcore group balances soaring melodies with unrelenting metal and emotional heaviness. The band’s fifth album, Eulogies, arrives with confidence and forward motion born from reflection, introspection, and isolation. The small-town Ohio-based five-piece band built the foundations for the album’s 13 songs during the pandemic shutdown, shaping diverse tracks like “Shadows,” “Peace That Starts The War,” and “No Tomorrow” into stunning confessional epics. Wolves At The Gate’s audience treasures each of the band’s best-known songs for the emotional depth, passionate catharsis, and evocative power contained in them, as evidenced by the millions of streams for WATG anthems. These include “Counterfeit,” “A Voice in the Violence,” and “Drifter” (from 2019’s Eclipse); “Asleep,” “Flickering Flame,” and “War in the Time of Peace” (from 2016’s Types & Shadows); “Relief,” and “The Bird and the Snake” (from 2014’ VxV); “Dead Man,” “The Harvest,” and “Slaves” (from 2012’s Captors), and “Heralds” (from 2011’s We Are The Ones). Wolves At The Gate blaze a path combining seemingly disparate elements into a singular, cohesive identity.

That there’s light at the end of the tunnel is a cliché often rolled out to those going through a bad time. But what if that’s not true? What if the darkness of that tunnel just stretches on forever and there is no light, no salvation, no hope? Because those are the circumstances of We Are Alive Beyond Repair, the third full-length album from New Jersey’s Gatherers – sonically and lyrically, it’s a bleak, brutal, nihilistic record that’s shrouded in such despair and anguish that there’s no chance whatsoever for escape. And that’s just how the five-piece like it. “We wanted this album to be as ugly and as horribly truthful as possible,” explains vocalist Rich Weinberger. “It has this very human but flawed connotation to it. It’s very pessimistic. I was reading a lot of Sylvia Plath at the time we were writing this record and I just like that the fabric of our existence is very meek and it’s dull and, no matter what, nothing will ever get better. That was the angle I wanted to explore with this record. It’s the idea of being just being completely unfulfilled, that no matter how much time we put into this band it’ll never be self-fulfilling.”

Since forming in the early '90s, Envy have become one of Japan's premier exports to the international post-hardcore scene. Their experimental, cinematic approach to heavy melodic rock has made them a favorite of post-rock and alternative metal fans, and their intense, emotionally direct VOcals and lyrics have wNon them accolades in the emo Screamo worlds as well. Envy have toured with Mogwai, Isis, and Explosions in the Sky, and have released split EPs with Jesu, Thursday, and Yaphet Kotto. The group's lineup has generally consisted of members Tetsuya Fukagawa (vocals/programming), Nobukata Kawai (guitar), Manabu Nakagawa (bass), Masahiro Tobita (guitar), and Dairoku Seki (drums), although other members played drums on the group's earliest recordings.
2. Epica - The Alchemy Project (Reuver, Netherlands)
Genre: Symphonic Metal Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5HA5aLY3jJV7eimXWkRBBp?si=AS69lJv5QzK62WdsaEDH3w
Formed by composer Mark Jansen after leaving After Forever back in 2002, Epica quickly gained attention outside their home country, taking big steps towards becoming the leading symphonic metal superpower they have long proven to be. On their past seven records so far, they soared from gothic undertones to a broad, epic and triumphant amalgamation of all things monolithic, establishing their unique brand of Simone Simons’ unparalleled vocal excellence with a band both ready to tear down venues around the globe while at the same time installing orchestral splendour, progressive elegance, oriental enchantment, cinematic soundscapes and colossal fury into their trailblazing bombshell sound.
3. Jordana - I'm Doing Well, Thanks For Asking (EP) (New York, New York)
Genre: Bedroom Pop Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5Bw9kFNhy019e4IBCJZlzw?si=lEwEn1-ESZeA_D5gwjAQ-A
On her new EP, I'm Doing Well, Thanks For Asking, Jordana is getting to know herself again. Or more accurately: getting to know her selves. It's fair to say the 22-year-old New York songwriter has shifted shape a few times in her short career. She got her start with homespun indie folk on Classical Notions of Happiness before jumping to the spindly bedroom pop of Something To Say To You. A year later, she was veering into the dreamy haze of her TV Girl collaboration Summer's Over, before eventually giving way to the hi-gloss pop of Face The Wall. It's the kind of omnivorous output the phrase something for everyone was invented for. Along the way she's managed to make fans of Wallows, Local Natives & Remi Wolf, who've each taken her on the road in 2022, landing her in front of crowds that number in the thousands. In many ways, the magic carpet ride of touring that opened up post-pandemic hasn't allowed Jordana the time to fully change forms again. Instead she's synthesized a little bit of everything that came before on this new six song short-player. And while the overall sound pulls from each of her past releases, the songs themselves remain obsessed with love and neuroses, being left and leaving, pitying yourself and learning to stop. “SYT,” the EP’s lead single, is a soaring kiss-off from a jilted lover. "It channels the feelings of empowerment and emotional awareness after a tough breakup," says Jordana. It wouldn’t sound out of place on Face The Wall, and certainly borrows from her most recent album’s logline advice of overcoming hardships. Elsewhere, on "You're In The Way," Jordana reaches back to the leathery indie pop of Something To Say To You's "Reason" & "I Guess This Is Life." It’s a song built around a simple drum loop, guitar strums and Jordana's voice. "It’s about getting to know yourself again after seemingly wasting time investing in someone else," says Jordana. Then, of course, there’s “Careless Mistake,” which updates the hushed folk of Classical Notions, increasing the fidelity and trading in her uke for a piano and a spotlight. It sounds like a song from some future collection of ballads. Which shouldn’t be surprising, the ever shape-shifting Jordana, already aware of some new form still yet to emerge.

North Carolina rock act He Is Legend are renowned for being much of what inspires them, a cult classic. The band formed in 2000, as its members were graduating from high school in Wilmington, North Carolina. Singer Schuylar Croom, lead guitarist Adam Tanbouz, rhythm guitarist McKenzie Bell, bassist Matt Williams, and drummer Steven Bache cycled through a variety of band names and musical approaches before establishing themselves as He Is Legend. After a self-released demo, A Kiss That Killed the One We Love (No One Wins), the band signed with the small indie label Tribunal Records to release their first EP, 91025, in the summer of 2004. Shortly after, He Is Legend signed with the more established Solid State Records to release their critically acclaimed full-length debut, I Am Hollywood, later the same year. After a two-year break, He Is Legend returned with their second full-length, Suck Out the Poison, in the fall of 2006. In May 2009 the band issued the single "The Primarily Blues," in anticipation of the release of their third studio long-player It Hates You. By the end of that summer, the band had gone on an indefinite hiatus. In February 2014, they dropped "Something Witchy," the first single from their next full-length, Heavy Fruit, which arrived later that August via Tragic Hero. Nordicwinter is an atmospheric/depressive black metal band from Quebec, Canada. Upon Canada’s frozen winds; Nordicwinter was spawned in August 2006 by a single entity known as evillair. Laden with haunting melodies and cryptic vocals, Nordicwinter sets out to drive back into the wombs from whence they came from, those false souls who today haunt the black metals scene like paint by numbers specters. There, within their bloody sepulchers, they will die; screaming silent screams that none will deign to hear.
2. Bunny - ARTIFICIAL BLOOD (Japan)
Genre: Future Bass/ Hip Hop /House/ EDM / Dance Music Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5Dccem9dkRqim9eKHXkSd3?si=MS4YXSv5SXSOWU1TDG181Q
Currently 23 years old, BUNNY started DJing at the young age of 17. In the 4th year of his musical career and only 2 months into his journey in music production, his remix "BTS - Fake Love (BUNNY Remix)", uploaded to SoundCloud, was played by Zedd at Ultra Korea 2018, making him an international sensation overnight and leading to his “Billboard Best BTS Remixer” award.
Attracting interest in the past on social media as Japan’s rising "high-school student DJ", he commands a loyal following from a younger crowd---the connections he has built up with them is like no others in his generation---while at the same time, earning a strong reputation amongst professionals in the music industry for his strong ability to produce the most in-demand and innovative sounds. His sound is heavily influenced by 2000’s emo/pop punk rock, emo rap and metal, infusing these elements into throbbing future bass and club-ready electro anthems. Using his background as a former guitarist/bass player in a rock band, he has established a style that seamlessly incorporates these elements into his music. His most recent collaborations include global features by Italian singer Becko on “Sick Hearted”, American singer Max Landry on “Our Love”, and Canadian singer SayWeCanFly on his most recent single “Embrace”, and he hopes to engage with a wider and more global audience through his refined and edgy sound.

Genre: mathcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/11YhymLrmHxQsN7cynBfEL?si=Tijrg2zkSoG_4H77LEXrkA
Chaotic New York grinders The Sawtooth Grin released just one album during their initial 1999-2004 run, 2001's Cuddlemonster, along with some other miscellaneous stuff, and though their existence was brief and relatively obscure, they've influenced a lot of the weirdo heavy shit that's come out over the past few years, especially the stuff that's usually associated with the mathcore and "sasscore" genres. This makes the timing perfect for what The Sawtooth Grin have just done: they've just released their first new album in 21 years! It's called Good., and it is indeed good. They're pretty much doing the same thing they were doing back in the day, but they sound sharper and tighter now than they did back then. And that we're getting this three days after the first Dr. Acula album in three years? What a time to be alive.

Since the age of 14, Cavetown has created self-produced songs both intensely diaristic and touched with offbeat imagination. Now 23, the Cambridge-based artist, otherwise known as Robin Skinner, has emerged as one of the preeminent voices in the DIY bedroom pop scene, with more than 1 billion global streams to date, including nearly 8 million monthly Spotify listeners and over 2 million YouTube subscribers. He did so without a viral hit or easy gimmicks, but rather pure heart, filling his YouTube channel and Bandcamp with a mix of covers and original music he wrote and self-recorded in his bedroom. With the release of his 2018 breakthrough album Lemon Boy, Skinner’s unassuming yet captivating personality took the internet by storm, catapulting him become a go-to collaborator for bedroom pop mainstays mxmtoon, Chloe Moriondo, and Tessa Violet, plus selling out major venues across the U.S. and U.K. as well as taking the stage at leading festivals like Lollapalooza and Reading & Leeds. In 2020, he unveiled his major label debut album, SLEEPYHEAD, followed by his most critically-acclaimed EP to date, Man’s Best Friend, which earned global praise from the likes of The New York Times, The FADER, Rolling Stone, Billboard, CLASH Magazine, and many more upon its release earlier this year.

Casting off the conventions of the post-hardcore genre, Dayseeker offers up their expansive fourth LP, Sleeptalk. After several years of hard-nosed touring throughout North America and Europe (including impressive showings on the final cross-country Vans Warped Tour) the Southern California natives returned to home and establish their new sound in familiar territory. Entering the studio with budding producer and close personal friend, Daniel Braunstein, the band embraces a uniquely Los Angeles sound - showcasing decades of influence all wrapped within the band’s core identity. From opening track to closing note, it’s clear that the band has discarded what may have been expected and instead chosen to embrace something most artists struggle to ever find: themselves. - Garrett Russell

Genre: Death Metal Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0EziqO4Mehje1x6hA1Fg2m?si=bxftYzveRJKzci3aDQpkPQ
UK death metal titans Ingested have been churning out bilious anti-anthems for more than a decade and a half, dropping a string of releases that have helped shape the genre. In 2022, they return with Ashes Lie Still, their most dynamic, inventive and daring release to date, holding nothing back, the band describing it as “A modern essential. If you like heavy music, it will be nigh on impossible for you to not find something you like about this record. It still has the core Ingested elements of groovy slamming riffs, quick drumming, and guttural vocals but there's also atmosphere, ethereal moments and some raw old school aggression.” Over the course of ten tracks they hack, slash and steamroll through everything in their path, and it easily stands as the highpoint of an already impressive career.
10. Black Anvil - Regenesis (New York, New York)
Genre: Black Metal Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1cM8mJWhWU9X0w4wpoQAQI?si=bPNNY_O6TsSbr0YkT5YqQA
New York City has always served as a cultural epicentre for musical innovation. Even more so than incubating genres in their infancy such as hardcore and even glam metal, for which bands like Twisted Sister and KISS long set the stage before the Sunset Strip took the reigns, the empire state has a storied and unique history of taking genres whose roots lie elsewhere and making them its own; whether it be Anthrax reinventing Bay Area thrash, Suffocation and Immolation planting their flag as death metal purveyors at a time when it was a primary export of Florida, or bands like Blondie and the Ramones rivalling the British punk scene, the city has always been at the forefront of musical excellence. And when it comes to New York’s answer to black metal, Black Anvil have not only been a driving force for USBM, but have taken the black metal genre as a whole and made it entirely their own. Now, with full-length number five, the band has once again levelled up their game, presenting a “Regenesis” of black metal. Now, nearly six years after As Was made its mark, Black Anvil is returning with its aptly titled fifth full-length, “Regenesis”. With a new record label, a new album, and a newfound exploration of dark and black metal, “Regenesis” represents a new dawn for the New York City collective.

Genre: Alternative/Rock Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6P5ccCJCe8A4s9tDSTNFzF?si=MObbAoBCR46a6UBO0JLZ4Q
Fleshwater, the grunge-gaze band with members of Vein.fm, will follow their 2020 demo with their Kurt Ballou-recorded debut album, We're Not Here To Be Loved, via Closed Casket Activities. Its nine songs include "Linda Claire" from the demo, as well as the just-released lead single "Kiss The Ladder." Compared to the slower Deftones/Hum vibes of the demo, this new song's a much punchier, poppier take on the genre and kinda feels like Swervedriver or Catherine Wheel at their catchiest, but with Fleshwater's own, modern twist.

After releasing a breakout bedroom pop EP Catflap and a dream-jangle LP Telltale Signs that brought international embrace, Sobs now assemble a front-to-back indiepop behemoth – Air Guitar – after a much anticipated three-year wait. A thirty-minute trip for the post-Internet consumer, Ait Guitar calibrates inventive pop hooks for the indie rock lover, instantly accessible yet intricately arranged. Further informed by the cosmopolitan, culturally astute ethos of PC Music – Sobs connects the uptempo of Shibuya’s Advantage Lucy [Lucked Out], heart-on-sleeve indie rock of Bettie Serveert and [World Implode], with the eclecticism of New York’s Darla Records [Friday Night] to define the pulse of indiepop then and now. From their formation back in 1986, to becoming one of Norways’s finest musical exports (with a number of highly revered black metal masterpieces released in the early 90’s helping to solidify their legacy), Darkthrone has continued to evolve and challenge in equal measure, throughout their illustrious recording career spanning over three decades. And now, the ever-productive duo of Nocturno and Fenriz continue their own metallic saga with a new selection of fine, vintage sounding headbanging classics in the making.Carried on the brisk wind of eager rock, with foundations in black, thrash, doom and heavy metal, ‘Astral Fortress’ is the latest album of stellar, eclectic old metal in the Darkthrone odyssey. With a seemingly endless dungeon full of heavy metal influences channelled through Darkthrone’s dynamic riff-machine, plus also with many increasing inspirations taken from their own past catalogue, Darkthrone has truly become its own beast within the metal world. Even though sprinkled with atmospheric touches such as synthesizers and mellotron on ‘Astral Fortress’ to great effect, the Darkthrone sound remains stripped down to the core; always primitive and organic.‘Astral Fortress’ was recorded at Chaka Khan Studios in Oslo, the same location used for the ‘Eternal Hails’ album, with Ole Øvstedal and Silje Høgevold.

Genre: Indie/Rock Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0tLaqkKW7K6tc3QF9SM0M8?si=w88sqRwtRd-LHqhIuP0J-w
A real cool band. Tigers Jaw was formed in 2005 by Ben Walsh and Adam McIlwee. Characterized by unconventionally catchy songs, weaving harmonies, and timelessly relatable lyricism, the band has been organically increasing its fanbase over a decade-plus of touring and releasing music. The latest effort, I Won't Care How You Remember Me, showcases a band who is confident and adventurous, forging trust in friendship alongside musicianship over years of steady touring. The lineup of Walsh, Brianna Collins, Teddy Roberts, and Colin Gorman have managed to craft a timeless and dynamic album that is both a confident step forward and an essential release in an already celebrated catalogue of music. Aptly described as the middle ground between Fleetwood Mac and Saves the Day, Tigers Jaw have managed to progress and evolve while preserving the spirit of their modest origins in the scrappy DIY Scranton punk scene. Genre: Metalcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0OgdRTPItr9dw4XYp4JJUx?si=FE6--fxZTFe3JUoRhmXrgA
Trauma and tragedy transfer from one generation to the next. As difficult as it may be, we still possess the power to break the cycle and start anew. Fit For A King ponder the pain of these cycles and the possibility to end them on their seventh full-length offering, The Hell We Create [Solid State]. The Texas quintet—Ryan Kirby [vocals], Bobby Lynge [guitar], Daniel Gailey [guitar], Ryan “Tuck” O’Leary [bass], and Trey Celaya [drums]—explore this ebb and flow with a deft, yet delicate balance of sharp metallic intensity and soaring melodic energy. “The album is a reflection of the events that happened throughout the pandemic,” recalls Ryan. “In short, my wife and I adopted children and had to homeschool them. She almost died from a stroke. The Hell We Create is by far the deepest and most personal record we’ve ever written.” In 2011, Fit For A King emerged out of Texas with a searing signature style rooted in metal and hardcore and uplifted by hypnotic hooks. Following the breakout LP Creation/Destruction [2013], they earned four consecutive Top 5 debuts on both the Billboard Top Christian Albums Chart and the Top Hard Rock Albums Chart with Slave to Nothing [2014], Deathgrip [2016], Dark Skies [2018], and The Path [2020]. The latter marked their first #1 on the Top Christian Albums Chart and Top 10 on the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart. Genre: Indie Rock Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2dV0D4uKMB4c8VhYHzt360?si=gjZAbstbSUaS7RtH6B4U2A
The Atlanta-based singer and songwriter Becca Harvey's lyrics are filled with an undisguised sentimentality and witty self-effacement, a mix that's garnered quick acclaim for her project, girlpuppy. Since girlpuppy's debut in 2020, Harvey has applied her emotional and vocal versatility to whatever genre she sees most fit to explore. First came the lo-fi guitar pop of introductory single “For You”; next, the self-described “sad girl” indie of 2021’s Swan EP, a collaboration with producer Marshall Vore (Phoebe Bridgers, Ada Lea) that drew praise from the likes of NPR and Nylon; in 2022 “I Miss When I Smelled Like You,” girlpuppy’s foray into ‘70s-indebted arena pop, saw her team up with Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers, Claud) on a breezily yearning break up jam. Striving for self-betterment is at the core of her 2022 full length debut, When I’m Alone, a record which centers Harvey’s dreamy vocals in intricate soundscapes, all while confronting the introspective thoughts she’s experienced in isolation. Recorded with Alex G guitarist Sam Acchione (who's production work Harvey admired on Tomberlin’s Projections EP), engineered and mixed by Henry Stoehr of the Chicago band Slow Pulp, and combining influences as diverse as My Bloody Valentine, Caroline Polacheck, and the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, When I'm Alone is her biggest, deepest, most complete project to date.
