“Mamalarky’s tenderly tangled indie rock has the internal logic of ridiculous jokes shared between band members after spending weeks on the road together. In 2020, the young Atlanta-based quartet had more than enough time in each other’s company to develop an idiosyncratic musical language. The sum of friendships and collaborations dating back to their teenage years, the band’s debut album (Fire Talk 2020) melds flashy instrumental moves with head-sticking hooks and lovesick lyrics welcoming anyone into their private world. While Mamalarky are ostensibly an indie-pop group, they stand out from the laid-back melancholy moods of contemporaries with complex instrumental interplay that inspires lean-forward listening.” - Jesse Locke for Pitchfork

Genre: Hardcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/64O5oavSEHRyQBGxOU0ewd?si=syYPInVcTXGGkqvA7_dSmg
Breaking onto the hardcore scene in 2013, New York’s Regulate have shown a resillent and earnest approach in everything they do. This rings true on the band’s upcoming self-titled LP that will drop September 30th on their new label home, Flatspot Records. The ten tracks on the album developed organically throughout the brunt of the pandemic, inspiring vocalist Sebastian Paba’s most personal lyrics to the date. Regulate has always been an outlet for vulnerability - the band’s latest album In the Promise of Another Tomorrow (2018) shined with commentary on identity and power structure complimented by explosive musicianship. Regulate takes the band to another level, teetering between a traditional hardcore sound and something more striking, pulling additional inspiration from Latin music and R&B. Paba effortlessly handles both screams and what might be the catchiest clean vocal delivery in the entire genre while pushing forth thoughts on serious topics like genocide against indigenous peoples and more light-hearted notes of just loving making music.Having already shared the stage with a heavy list of bands like Terror, Backtrack, Glassjaw, Madball, and Burn, the band is prepped to get back to touring steadily in 2022. They’ll hit the road with Vein.fm and Candy this summer and are also slated for numerous festival appearances.Heading into a new album cycle, ambitions are high for Regulate, but they don’t mind leaving a few things up to interpretation.

On The Beths’ new album Expert In A Dying Field, Elizabeth Stokes’ songwriting positions her somewhere between being a novelist and a documentarian. The songs collected here are autobiographical, but they’re also character sketches of relationships and more importantly, their aftermaths. The question that hangs in the air: what do you do with how intimately versed you’ve become in a person, once they’re gone from your life? The third LP from the New Zealand quartet houses 12 jewels of tight, guitar-heavy songs that worm their way into your head, an incandescent collision of power-pop and skuzz. The album’s title track “Expert In A Dying Field” introduces the thesis for the record: “How does it feel to be an expert in a dying field? How do you know it’s over when you can’t let go?” Stokes asks. “Love is learned over time ‘til you’re an expert in a dying field.” 'Expert In A Dying Field' is out September 16 via Carpark Records and Ivy League Records.

In between these opposing extremes, the band—Mike Hranica [vocals], Jeremy DePoyster [guitar, vocals], Kyle Sipress [guitar], Jonathan Gering [keys, synths, programming, production], Giuseppe Capolupo [drums], and Mason Nagy [bass]—have fashioned an ever-evolving signature style buttressed by layers of sonic hues. They’ve harbored this space since forming in 2005. Speaking to the band’s growing influence, fans voted 2009’s With Roots Above and Branches Below one of the “5 Greatest Metalcore Albums” in a Revolver poll as the outlet christened it “a true metalcore landmark.” The group have notched six consecutive Top 5 debuts on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart, including Dead Throne [2011], 8:18 [2013], Space EP [2015], Transit Blues [2016], The Act [2019], and ZII EP [2021]. The latter served as a sequel to one of their most beloved projects 2010’s Zombie EP. Upon arrival, mxdwn applauded ZII as “phenomenal,” and Metal Injection went as far as to claim, “This mini-concept has outlived the zombie revival.” In the wake of the EP, the group exceeded a-quarter-of-a-billion cumulative streams and views. Now, The Devil Wears Prada’s signature dynamic divergence defines the group’s eighth full-length offering, Color Decay [Solid State].

"Mindforce is back, baby! The great Hudson Valley hardcore band never went anywhere. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Mindforce has released the EP Swingin Swords, Choppin Lords and the one-off banger “Reign Of Terror.” They’ve played amazing live shows. They’ve spawned a whole universe of kickass side projects. But they haven’t made another album. Mindforce released their one full-length, the full-on shit-ripper Excalibur, back in 2018. They’ve since made statements about how they never want to make another one, but I guess they changed their minds. In a few months, Mindforce will return with their second LP New Lords, and it is almost certainly going to rip.Mindforce are going into this album as conquering heroes, as one of the most universally beloved bands on the present-day hardcore landscape. But you can’t necessarily hear that swagger on “Survival Is Vengeance,” our first taste of New Lords. Instead, the song is all breathless urgency. “Survival Is Vengeance” goes for full-on thrash speed, and it’s over in less than two minutes. In that time, it does a whole lot of damage. Genre: Metalcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/159qqlGwzE04xyqpfAwRLo?si=8zO6ge84R62p5QlBWIqqhw
Darker Still, McCall says, is the vision he and his bandmates – guitarists Jeff Ling and Luke Kilpatrick, bassist Jia O’Connor and drummer Ben Gordon – have held in their mind’s eye since a misfit group of friends first convened in their parents’ basements and backyards in 2003. The journey to reach this moment has seen Parkway evolve from metal underdogs to festival-headlining behemoth, off the back of close to 20 gruelling years, six critically and commercially acclaimed studio albums (all of which achieving Gold status in their home nation), three documentaries, one live album, and many, many thousands of shows. To understand that growth is to understand Darker Still, both musically and thematically. Those who thought they had Parkway Drive figured out – the unrivalled energy, the high-octane breakdowns, McCall’s trademark bark – need reconsider everything they know about Australia’s masters of heavy. Darker Still stands as the culmination of a transformative time that has seen Parkway reach new heights of creativity and success by eschewing the restrictive, safe conventions of genre and abandoning their own self-imposed rules in favour of a wide-eyed appreciation of bold new horizons. This is the Parkway Drive the band have been striving to be for two decades. Emerging from the darkness of the past few years, this is the true face of Parkway: redefined and resolute, focused in mind and defiant in spirit.

Cult Leader specialize in sludgy but tech-forward metalcore that invokes names like Trap Them, Converge, and Pig Destroyer. Featuring three-quarters of the original Gaza lineup (Casey Hansen, Anthony Lucero, Michael Mason, and Sam Richards)
6. Flogging Molly - Anthem (Los Angeles, California)
Genre: Celtic Punk Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5kQGFREO5FzMBMsAO3cEtj?si=Quh07L7ZSQa_JSEWfRLddg
Flogging Molly are less of a band than they are a Transatlantic, Celtic-punk institution. Over the course of 25 years and thousands of shows around the world, Flogging Molly have transcended genres to become one of a very few bands that can literally share the stage with The Chieftains one day and Motörhead the next (this actually happened, by the way). For Flogging Molly’s seventh full-length 'Anthem', the band, which features married couple Dave King (vocals, guitar, bodhrán) and Bridget Regan (violin/fiddle, tin whistle, backing vocals), decided to get back to their roots and record 14 songs in 14 days with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies) at Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago. Atom Greenspan (Idles, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) mixed the tracks, and was also instrumental in both the sound and sequencing of Anthem.
Ultimately, there really aren’t any other bands like Flogging Molly who can transverse scenes from punk to folk so easily and the fact that there are now multiple generations of fans at the band’s shows is a testament to their continued relevance. All of which brings us full circle back to Anthem. The band—and the world—have been through a lot over the past few years and Anthem is much about the collective spirit we all possess that allows us to push forward toward the future.

Genre: Metalcore / Hardcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5tGG1slV9pkcydU5eQSIvm?si=TMwsXE5ESKypLS2Mo9rWeA
Stray From The Path have been unleashing their furious blend of hardcore aggression and outspoken socio-political lyricism for over a decade, striving to be the kind of band that can offer an entry point to both heavy music and radical ideas, and achieving an impressive level of longevity in the process. Now their latest album, Euthanasia, finds the NY/UK-based group in significantly darker territory.Rarely offering the listener a chance to catch their breath, Euthanasia rips through track after track of sinister riffs, gut - shaking bass, and powerhouse drumming that defies both reality and the seriousness of Reynold’s injury. Dijorio manages to sound unhinged throughout, while still providing genuine hooks amongst all of the aggression and no-punches-pulled lyrics. Many of the songs seek to shine a spotlight on elements of modern life that have become disturbingly normalized, like the insidiousness of copaganda, the predatory tactics of military recruiters in the United States (Chest Candy), or the unmitigated greed of major corporations. But Euthanasia doesn’t deal exclusively in vitriol. On mid-album standout Bread & Roses, the band teams with vocalist to stretch their creativity in a different direction. "This song was inspired by people, like Jesse, who do mutual aid work and make sacrifices in their own lives for the betterment of their communities," explains Williams.
8. I Am - Eternal Steel (Dallas, Texas)

Texas death unit I AM will release their Eternal Steel full-length September 9th via MNRK Heavy, today unveiling the record’s artwork, track listing, and first single! Brandishing a unique blend of furious thrash and death metal like a weapon of mass destruction, I AM is purely no-nonsense in their patented “Texas Death” assault. Armed with riffs, speed, and overwhelming power, “I AM writes songs that make you want to move” (Decibel Magazine). Across three full-length slabs of bludgeoning intensity and snarling rage, I AM put a Southern stamp and revitalized swagger into deathcore, a subgenre rarely as raw, energized, and diverse as this band. In the spirit of fellow Southern icons Pantera and newer Texan heroes Power Trip, I AM channels discontent and anger into empowering anthems, as likely to inspire a grueling workout as to incite the pit. Reminiscent of the combination of death metal heaviness and thrash metal speed found in the early catalog of Sepultura, I AM mines the heaviness of Morbid Angel and the dexterity of the Big 4 to create something groundbreaking of their own. Vocalist Andrew Hileman — who started the band in 2011– guitarists Tom Reyes and Chris Burgess, bassist Erik Rodriguez, and drummer Brandon Busa deliver their Texas Death in clubs, theaters, and festivals, with bands like The Acacia Strain and Kublai Khan. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Randy Leboeuf & EQ

5. The Callous Daoboys - Celebrity Therapist (Atlanta, Georgia)
Genre: Chaotic Hardcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4ZWRLOs7c4drt9mKGc0Ds0?si=cmE5hFhzTSS-koxvDPaSqQ
The recklessly free-spirited collective from Atlanta, Georgia, revels in high-strung extremity, music that’s somehow dense, impenetrable, and chaotic yet confusingly inviting. An undeniable life-affirming glee is palpable as each song deliriously swerves across stylistic lines. The Callous Daoboys come from the school of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, and The Chariot, with a heightened degree of theatricality as one of the methods to their madness. Think Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy getting slapped around good-naturedly by Glassjaw. Celebrity Therapist even indulges in a bit of drone and avant-garde post-rock a la Sigor Rós and Radiohead.

Genre: Hardcore/Metalcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2qXHYRTtZytxMMfO9pW1V9?si=_Y916dGNQNanhD80JNvgWQ
A soundtrack for those whose story and struggles are seldom reflected in the glossy pages of life’s shining field guide for success, 156/Silence’s impassioned soliloquy stands apart, skirting the shallow pool of false pleasantries and descending deeper into the ominous yet hauntingly beautiful ruminations of a frustrated conscience.
8. State of You - S/T (EP) (United Kingdom)
Genre: Rock N Roll Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/18YRYVKCQ6myVzKnTZIjXE?si=SnSF2PffTk6ofTbHVKTNig
State of You began to come together at the tail end of 2019. The band is comprised of ex-members of Polar, Hildamay, Outcry Collective and Seasonal. Ollie Jeffs and Max O'Neil on guitars, Nick Jones on drums, Rick Keenan on bass and Steve Sitkowski on vocals. With a shared desire to write straight up rock 'n' roll songs to expel personal demons and take aim at world problems, they found an instant chemistry. After a handful of practices together, the pandemic hit. Instead of grinding to a halt, the band kept their momentum going by sending ideas to each other online and discussing them whilst simultaneously playing Call of Duty. Being crowned the winning team of a Warzone match was a highlight that shall never be forgotten. Picking through over 40 song ideas, the band settled on recording one (Run) with Oz Craggs (Feed the Rhino) at Hidden Track Studios in Folkestone. Proper Covid-19 rules were adhered to at all times. The recording attracted the attention of investor Andy Hillier which then allowed a full EP to be recorded and a video shot by Aaran McKensie from While She Sleeps in Birmingham. Aaran then recommended the band to the record label Silent Cult who signed them instantly. Currently honing their live game as often as they can, State of You are looking forward to smashing the shit out of every stage they get on. Welcoming people from all walks of life to join them on this adventure.
9. Illuminate Me - Dying on a Hill That Nobody Remembers (EP) (Tampa, Florida)
Genre: Chaotic Hardcore Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6RDYMULyM7hhso4NEjExJ5?si=sCDC63kkQsKPgjH5ZeE0sw
“If you lived in the Southeast (especially Florida) in the last 10 years or so, you may be familiar with a chaotic hardcore/metalcore band known as Illuminate Me. Signed to Tragic Hero Records after gaining a sizable fanbase in their home area, the band ultimately disbanded due to a complete lack of support from their label.
Considering the band arrived at a time where bands in their genre were getting signed to labels and experiencing success, they’re a band that, at least in our opinion, should have “made it”. Now, they’ve reformed and are getting a second chance. Fans of bands like The Chariot will want to give one a spin for sure, and the song also features Oshie Bichar of Beartooth.
About the new song, vocalist Christopher Murray had this to share:
“I believe this band has immense potential that was squandered by a label that did not care about us and destroyed the band’s motivation and passion. I toiled for years at the thought that I was just not good enough. This return is about me proving myself, and the ones that did put the band in that position, ultimately wrong. This is about revenge. Your anger is a gift, don’t waste it. Let it illuminate.”
The new song is also off Illuminate Me’s upcoming EP, Dying On A Hill That Nobody Remembers. The EP also features a guest spot from Aaron Heard of Jesus Piece, so you know it’s gonna be vicious. It’s out at the end of this month.”
